I say I do not worship idols, but graven images pursue me. They call me to bow, they ask for more. They dance in my head keeping me in pursuit. But for what I ask?
As I mature, I am beginning to care less about possessions and more about investing. But investing in what? Part of my personality is I am dreamer, a visionary and because of that I am always thinking ahead. The vision of looking forward and planning allows me to keep my eye on the big picture.
These gods that use to dominate my thoughts quickly fade when I focus my attention on knowing the character of God and living His character. I refuse to live regretting what I pursued. So I pursue God. Can you imagine when you stand before God one day? You’ll stand and say what? Will you proudly proclaim, God- this is all my stuff and I have lots of it.
The gods of materialism and pride use to keep me up at night, but now God gives me a peaceful sleep.
Matt 6:19-20 “Do not accumulate for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But accumulate for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal.
Mark 4:19 “But the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it proves unfruitful.”
Your stuff is all going to burn one day…..
