Tangled in the past

man in praiseIt is just the way it has always been. We hear that often and we accept it as fact.

For me, I am buried in so much right now thinking about Promise Academy here in Pleasant Hill, growing The Orange Planet, Hope2Offer, family, raising kids and counseling people going through deep hurts. How does anyone have time to think about their past hurts? You can almost forget about your past baggage, but it is curious to me, just a small trigger and there it is.

I just found this journal entry of mine from 2007. “Just talked with guy in Chicago about getting a big loan for T.O.P. Then while driving in my car, turned on the radio and timing would have it…. just for me…it says….. “Forget the past you are free to move on!” I broke out in tears and shouted thank you God, thank you, I heard you. I can at times get so tangled in my past. I heard you today God. I acknowledge that I need you. I want to do something big with my life. The Holy Spirit’s evidence is so apparent. I am just glad I didn’t miss it.”

And then, there it was, bam! the radio plays “The blessing…let it be said of us…” John Walker. Powerful lyrics regarding making your life a blessing to others.

In order to be a blessing I must remind myself to let God have the past and then I can move on and do greater things.

Is your life damaged by past hurts? Has it become a wasteland, a desert? Dwelling upon a record of wrongs weighs us down and heavily burdens us. But wait….. There is hope!

Isaiah 43:18-19 “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.”
