I use to trust myself to get things done. Maybe we are all a bit like that. Through years of getting hurt and seeing trust broken it has caused me to believe, if you want something done right, do it yourself. This mentality ultimately kept me from trusting God.
Trusting God to transform you should be easy because He is good, He has the power to help you, He wants to help you, He made you and He promises “Apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5)
So can He take a life and transform it? It seems like everyone has a religion now days and it’s only left people empty. I challenge you to examine Jesus’ life. Just think, even Mohammed and Buddha never claimed to be God, but Jesus did.
Perhaps you might think it’s all a farce and Christians are morons leaning on crutches. Instead, if you examine facts you’ll notice they are irrefutable. You’ll find that Jesus really was who he claimed to be.
Instead of realizing you have gone off the deep end, you’ll notice that the Gospel will change your life. You’ll find that not only your eternal destination will be forever altered, but simple things like your temper, your lack of accountability, your relationships and your purpose, to mention a few, will change.
But there is more. As you read the Bible you’ll notice that societies laws can’t and won’t change hearts. Jesus himself said in John 8:31-32, “If you abide in my Word, then you are my disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Your opinions won’t set you free. They have no power.
When God’s Word is your authority in life, it will transform every part of you. Things of this world will grow strangely dim. You’ll see people for their heart, not their skin. You’ll see money as a tool not something to grip tightly. You’ll see life as temporary and the soul eternal. If the Word of God isn’t powerful, sharper than any two edge sword dividing the soul and spirit, judging our thoughts and attitudes, then life is pointless.
Do not be conformed to this world (you are just passing through), but be transformed be the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Romans 12:1-2
It’s God truth that leads to transformation. It is lasting. It is real.
