“I know what is right, yet I do wrong”. “I want to change, but I can’t”. I’m sure you’ve heard or said statements like this before. Change isn’t easy for some, but nothing is being asked of you that is not asked of all of us.
When Jesus asked us to follow him, I realize He didn’t do a very appealing infomercial. He simply said, you want to follow me? Die to yourself.
So it starts with a decision, a choice to say yes to God’s intentions for your life. I realize it is not easy for some to say no to what they feel is natural, being their own god. But Jesus does say if you lose your life, only then will you find it. Choice, then repentance. Then healing comes.
When He calls you to die to self, it’s just because he knows it falls so short of what you can have in Him.
“Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.” James 4:8-10
