I was a guard and love everything about what guards provide the game. But there is a center in basketball and he is usually the tallest person with the greatest strength and body mass. The center is around the hoop most of the time scoring or rebounding. As a guard there is nothing like an in and out game with the center as it helps pull defense away from the perimeter freeing up the guard.
As a Christian, Jesus Christ is our center. We’d be wise to give him the ball. He knows how to lead us to succeed. He draws the defense (Satan) away from us. Unlike basketball centers, Jesus never misses and has perfect timing. He dominates and can be trusted.
My question to you is who is the core of your life, the person at the center of your life? If it is anyone other than Christ you will lose.
So how do you make him the center? 1 Peter 5:6 clearly lays it out. “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, so that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, because He cares about you.”
So what stops us from humbling ourselves? We scout teams before we play them. It is so we can see who our opposition is and who we are going up against. Pride and ego are huge obstacles to establishing a humble walk with God. Upon reading the scouting report we find that Satan (our opposition) is moving like a lion seeking to devour us. Satan’s goal is to ruin you, there is no need playing on his team.
God is already the center, you just have to submit to him. You can count on Him. He will never disappoint you. “In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:6.
